The epic of Mahabharata has always attracted me where it was always told from the point of view of Pandavas, great heroes of Dvapara Yuga (one of the era of four age cycle- Satya Yuga, Treta Yuga, Dvapara Yuga and Kali Yuga). It’s an epic tale of Kurukshetra war between Pandavas and kauravas of kuru dynasty narrating their childhood, hostility, conspiracies, kingdom, war, dharma Adharma, everything unfolding from the point of view of men.

The palace of Illusions is a retelling of Mahabharata from the eyes of Draupadi, wife of Pandavas. The author has beautifully described her emotional state as a wife of five men from her perspective. Her journey starting from her birth, childhood, marriage with five men, friendship with mysterious Krishna, her secret love interest, Kurukshetra war, final journey.

The book aptly narrates her pride, emotions, love, revenge, beliefs and opinion. How she feels about her each husband, her dreams and visions.

Even after all the wrongs in her life, she was contented in her magnificent palace which she dearly calls The Palace of Illusions i.e. palace of her dreams but it was soon shattered by the conspiracies executed by the kauravas.

This book is quite a read and will bind you to the emotions of the Panchali (Draupadi), princess of Panchala kingdom and wife of Pandavas.

I loved this book and noticed myself feeling her pain, love and revenge.
